Tombstone Courthouse

(520) 457-3311
Located just a block away from historic Allen Street, the original Cochise County Courthouse now houses the only publicly owned museum in Tombstone. Exhibits depict not only the famous shoot-out between the Earps and the Clanton gang, but also the mining and ranching life which was the lifeblood of the young county. On the second floor is a complete, authentic 1880s courtroom and a replica law office. A video re-enactment presented in the courtroom depicts the 1897 trial of William Cornell Greene for the murder of Jim Burnett, whom Greene held responsible for the deaths of his daughter, Ella, and her young friend, Katie Corcoran.

If you have a child or grandchild aged 6-12 years old, you might want to check out the Junior Ranger program. Kids can fill in the blanks on a poster-sized "junior ranger journal," which encourages them to look carefully at the exhibits in order to find the answers. If they journey along with Rocky Ringtail to find the button shoes, the safes, and the cowboy's bedroll, among other things, they turn in their completed journal to the ranger and receive a Tombstone Courthouse Park button. Even adults can learn a few things during this exercise, and it makes a trip to the museum more fun for the kids.

The park is for day use only with no camping, but there are many RV parks, bed and breakfast lodgings, and motels in the town of Tombstone. The museum is open daily, 8-5. Admission $4 age 14 and above, children 0-13, free.
