Europa, guest conductor Keitaro Harada
The opening concert of the symphony's sixteenth season will feature works by European composers, both classical and contemporary. Smetana's The Moldau and Tchaikowsky's Marche Slav provide a taste of Eastern Europe followed by music of Schubert, Berlioz and Weber and topped off with a modern touch by Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera. The mesmerizing young Keitaro Harada will be guest conductor.

Friday, January 21, 7 p.m.
Latin Dreams/Latin Nights
Warm up the winter night with exotic Latin music. The orchestra takes on Spanish themes with Chabrier's Espana, Bizet's Carmen Suite, and Copland's El Salon Mexico. Harpists Dr. Carol McLaughlin and Brazil's Gustavo Beaklini will perform Elias Parish-Alvars' Concertina for Two Harps.

March 12, 7 p.m.
Americana, music from Broadway
Broadway shows provide the memorable tunes from Carousel, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, Showboat, and Call Me Madam. George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and a tribute to Henry Mancini complete the program.

Sierra Vista Symphony Orchestra
All concerts are presented at the Buena Performing Arts Center in Sierra Vista beginning at 7:00 p.m. Beginning promptly at 6:00, a free half-hour seminar is presented for those desiring to know more about the composers and their music. Concert ticket prices are: $30 preferred seating, $25 general admission seating; $30 family (with children). Students 14 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are available at Dillard's, Safeway, Oscar Yrun Center, and the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce. All tickets sold concert night at the box office add $5. Pre-concert seminar is free.
